Starting in 1964, Marlin produced a modified variant of their popular Model 99 rimfire rifle, stylized to look and feel like the WWII- M1 Carbine which they dubbed the 99M-1. Though the Model 99M1 was externally designed to resemble an M-1 Carbine as much as possible, internally it was still a Model 99, albeit with a much shorter tubular magazine designed to fit into the fore-end of the rifle and a faux box magazine. The 99 had a walnut stock, the 60 a birch stock.
